Questions people ask
Short answers to some of the questions we hear most. Each one deserves a longer conversation, so ask away.
Is God real, and does He care about me?
The world around us points to a Maker: a universe that had a beginning, laws precise enough to allow life, and a sense deep in every person that some things are truly right and others truly wrong. The Bible says God made that knowledge plain to everyone.
But the Bible says more than “God exists.” It says He knows you by name and pursues you. Jesus told of a shepherd who leaves ninety-nine sheep to find the one that is lost. That is how God looks at you.
“The Lord is near to all who call on him.” Psalm 145:18
If God is good, why is there so much suffering?
This may be the hardest question of all, and the Bible doesn't hide from it. Whole books, like Job and many of the Psalms, are people crying out to God in pain. Suffering entered the world when people turned away from God, and every life feels the damage.
God's answer is not a formula but a Person. In Jesus, God stepped into our suffering: He wept at a friend's grave, was betrayed, and died on a cross. And He promises a day when He will wipe away every tear. If you're hurting, you don't need a tidy answer first. Let's talk.
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” Revelation 21:4
Who is Jesus, really?
Most people agree Jesus was a real man who lived in Israel two thousand years ago and was a great teacher. But Jesus claimed much more: to forgive sins, to be one with God, and to be the way to the Father. Then He died on a Roman cross, and His followers, who had run away in fear, were soon ready to die saying they had seen Him alive again.
Either Jesus was who He said He was, or He wasn't. The best way to decide is to meet Him in the Gospels yourself. We'd love to read them with you.
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” John 14:6
Can God forgive anything I've done?
Yes. There is no sin too big for the cross. The Bible is full of people who did terrible things and were forgiven: Moses killed a man, David committed adultery and murder, and Paul hunted down Christians. God's forgiveness doesn't depend on how good we are. It depends on what Jesus did when He died in our place.
People may not forgive you, and you may not forgive yourself. But God offers a completely clean start to anyone who turns to Him.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.” 1 John 1:9
Aren't all religions basically the same?
Many faiths share good teaching about kindness, prayer and honesty, and we respect our neighbors of every faith. But the religions answer the big questions differently: who God is, what is wrong with us, and how we can be made right.
Most paths ask us to climb up to God by what we do. The message of Jesus is the other way around: God came down to us, and offers grace as a gift. We'd love to hear what you believe and talk honestly about the differences, as friends.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8
What happens when we die?
The Bible says death is not the end. Every person will stand before God, and those who trust in Jesus will live with Him forever, in a renewed world without death, pain or tears. Jesus said this to a grieving friend just before He raised her brother from the dead.
That hope can change how we live now. If you've lost someone, or you think about this more than you'd like, we'd be glad to talk.
“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.” John 11:25
